About Robert W. Walter
Robert W. Walter was born in New York on November 25, 1955. In 1959, his parents moved to a suburb of Denver, Colorado, where he grew up and has since remained. After majoring in business and graduating from Colorado State University, he then went on to law school at the Duke University School of Law. After receiving his Juris Doctor degree from Duke in 1981, he returned to practice law in Denver. There, he met and married his wonderful wife Anne, with whom he has three children, Lindsey, Stephanie and Robby.
Looking for a new challenge after practicing securities law and writing offering documents, contracts and business plans for years, Robert W. Walter began teaching continuing education courses for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1998. He offered to write his first eight-hour continuing education course for AICPA in 2000, and enjoyed the experience so much that he went on to write three more continuing education courses for AICPA, two of which he updates annually. In turn, this led to his writing and having five books published from 2002 through 2006 for lawyers, accountants and entrepreneurs by Barron’s, CCH Incorporated, Aspen Publishers, and AICPA. His professional life has been divided since 2000 among writing, teaching and practicing law in what he refers to as his “three-legged stool.”
Robert W. Walter is a member of the Author’s Guild, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the National Speaker’s Association, American Mensa, and various bar associations. He established the Robert Wheaton Walter and Robert William Walter Scholarship at the Duke University School of Law in 1987 in honor of his father. That scholarship is awarded annually to law school students at Duke whose backgrounds demonstrate an interest in both business and law.
